Alec Finlay
IAlec Finlay (born Scotland, 1966) is an artist, poet and publisher. He works in a range of media, including text, performance, painting and publications, and often in collaboration with other artists and writers. His practice explores human interaction with the natural environment, and considers how contemporary culture relates to the English landscape.
In 2007 Film and Video Umbrella commissioned two works by Finlay: ‘Floating Island Garden’ and ‘The Sunken Bell’. These were part of the touring group exhibition ‘Waterlog’, which was accompanied by a major publication ‘Waterlog: Journeys Around an Exhibition’.
Finlay’s work has been widely exhibited in the UK and abroad, with selected exhibitions at Witte de With, Rotterdam; ARC Projects, Sofia, Bulgaria; Milton Keynes Gallery; the Bluecoat, Liverpool; and Tate Modern, London. He was selected for EAST 2005 and has undertaken residencies at BALTIC, Gateshead and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. He lives and works in Newcastle, England
