Andrew Cross

Andrew Cross

Andrew Cross works in the medium of film and photography, often depicting a journey or exploring transport infrastructure. By doing so, he takes the viewer into unseen places, or enables a fresh way of looking at something that we take for granted.

Cross was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella to make ‘An English Journey’ in 2004. This was the first solo touring exhibition of the artist’s work. The exhibition was accompanied by a book and DVD of the same name, published by Film and Video Umbrella. An English Journey’ is a prime example of Cross’ interest in presenting the familiar in a new way.

The artist has had solo exhibitions at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester; John Hansard Gallery, Southampton; and Turner Contemporary, Margate, amongst others. He has contributed to many group exhibitions, including Westfälischer Kunstverien, Münster; First Contact Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida; the Whitechapel Gallery and the ICA, London. In 2004 he was shortlisted for the Beck’s Futures Prize.
