Andrew Stones

Andrew Stones

Andrew Stones (born Sheffield, 1960) works in a range of media, including video, photography, sound, installation and digital media. His practice engages with technology, forming an interface between cutting-edge science and contemporary art, and exploring how knowledge is gathered and disseminated.

In 2004 Film and Video Umbrella commissioned Andrew Stones to make a major new video and sound installation, ‘Atlas’. This was accompanied by a publication, ‘Andrew Stones – Outside Inside’, which was the first book to provide an extensive overview of the artist’s practice. ‘Atlas’ is exemplary of Stones’ investigative approach in his work, incorporating material recorded at the CERN research centre in France.

In 2001 Stones was awarded a three-year fellowship by the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts. His work has been widely exhibited, with shows at the Chisenhale Gallery, London; Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall, Copenhagen; the Bluecoat, Liverpool; Site Gallery, Sheffield; and Ikon, Birmingham, amongst many others.
