Dalziel + Scullion
Matthew Dalziel and Louise Scullion are Scottish based artists who have collaborated since 1993. The pair work in a wide range of media, including photography, video, sound and sculpture, seeking to create new artistic languages with which to explore the subject of ecology. The work strives to visualise aspects of the natural environment from alternative viewpoints, in order to re-evaluate our engagement with the non-human species that live around us.
Dalziel + Scullion were commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella in 2004 as part of the large-scale project ‘Silicon Fen’. This was a three-year programme of digital art commissions exploring the east of England, and is also the subject of a major publication of the same name.
The artists have exhibited extensively, with solo presentations at Milton Keynes Art Gallery; Ikon, Birmingham; CCA Glasgow; and Arnolfini, Bristol. They contributed to the 1995 Venice Biennale and to the First International Biennal of Video Art, Tel Aviv in 2002, and were shortlisted for the prestigious Artes Mundi Prize in 2008.
