Daria Martin
Daria Martin (born San Francisco, 1973) works in film and performance, often collaborating with musicians and dancers. Her works draw on classical literature and cinematic history to make contemporary re-workings of myths that visually reference high Modernist utopian aesthetics.
In 2005 Daria Martin was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella to make ‘Wintergarden’, which was shot on location at the De La Warr Pavilion, Sussex. The work continued Martin’s practice of making performative films, and was her most ambitious work to date.
Martin’s work is internationally acclaimed and she has had solo presentations at New Museum, New York; CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; The Showroom, London; and Tate Modern. Group exhibitions have included Manifesta 7, Italy; Performa 07, New York; the 2006 Tate Triennial, London and the touring exhibition British Art Show 6. In 2005 she was shortlisted for the Beck’s Future’s Prize and in 2008 she received a Wellcome Trust Arts Award. Martin lives and works in London, where she is represented by Maureen Paley.
