Dryden Goodwin

Dryden Goodwin

Dryden Goodwin (born 1971) works across a number of media, including drawing, photography, animation and video. His work combines the handmade and the digital to make portraits of strangers that are both intimate and voyeuristic. These observational works are often made quickly while traversing the city, depicting the transitory encounters experienced in the modern metropolis.

Goodwin first worked with Film and Video Umbrella in 2001 as part of the video programme ‘Unlimited Edition’. Then in 2003 he was commissioned to make ‘Dilate’, an eight-screen installation, which was one of his most ambitious works to date. His work is subject of a Film and Video Umbrella publication, ‘Dryden Goodwin’, which is part of the Minigraphs series.

Goodwin’s work has been exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. Recent solo exhibitions include Hassellblad Foundation, Göteborg, Sweden; the Chisenhale Gallery and the Photographer’s Gallery, London. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Tate Modern, Tate Britain and FACT Liverpool and in the Venice Biennale. The artist is represented by Stephen Friedman Gallery, London.
