Ergin Cavuşoğlu
Ergin Çavuşoğlu (born Targoviste, Bulgaria, 1968) lives and works in London. His work draws on personal experience of migration to explore the shifting states of geopolitics, and how these changes affect each one of us. The particular focus of these meditations is the borders between ‘old’ and ‘new’ Europe, and how mobility between these areas facilitates the exchange of ideas that cut through divisions.
Ergin Çavuşoğlu was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella in 2006 to make ‘Point of Departure’. This major video installation work was accompanied by a publication of the same name.
Çavuşoğlu’s work has been widely exhibited, with solo presentations at Kunstverein Freiburg, Germany; Contemporary Art Centre, Istanbul; and Dundee Contemporary Art in Scotland, amongst many others. He has contributed to group exhibitions at SMART Project Space, Amsterdam; The New Gallery, Jerusalem; and De Appel, Amsterdam. He was part of the touring exhibition British Art Show 6 and was shortlisted for the Beck’s Futures Prize in 2004. The artist is represented by Haunch of Venison.
