Gemma Pardo

Gemma Pardo

Born in Spain, Gemma Pardo now lives and works in London. Her work first came to prominence when she was included in Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2007, and received considerable critical acclaim. Her practice encompasses photography and video, its subject often being places – seascapes, landscapes and the urban environment. These images can be deceptively simple, but persist for long enough to gradually engulf their viewers.

In 2008 Gemma Pardo made ‘Finisterre’, a single-channel video projection commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella. This was the artist’s first significant commission. It formed part of an exhibition touring to Nottingham Castle, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull and Hastings Museum and Art Gallery.

Pardo’s work has been exhibited at numerous galleries including Cornerhouse, Manchester; New Art Gallery, Walsall; the 20th Biennial d’Eivissa, Ibiza; and the Hessel Museum, New York.
