Guy Moreton

Guy Moreton

Guy Moreton (born 1971, Lincoln, UK) is an artist working primarily with photography. His evocative work tends to focus on historical details relating to the places and landscapes he depicts. For example, his work in ‘Waterlog’ responded to local tales about church bells ringing audibly beneath flood water.

Film and Video Umbrella worked with Moreton in 2007 on the touring group exhibition ‘Waterlog’. This was accompanied by a major publication, ‘Waterlog: Journeys Around an Exhibition’. Moreton’s contribution to the exhibition, the photo series ‘The Sunken Bell’ and ‘Dunston Pillar’, were made in close collaboration with Alec Finlay, another artist in the exhibition.

Moreton’s work has been exhibited internationally, notably in the Whitechapel Gallery, London; Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge; EAST International, Norwich; and the John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton. He is a senior lecturer in the School of Visual Arts, Southampton Solent University.
