Imogen Stidworthy
Imogen Stidworthy’s work explores how language, perception and the act of listening underpin the creation of inter-human relationships and a sense of self, whilst questioning our complex interactions with the world through our use of language.
Film and Video Umbrella first worked with Stidworthy in 2000 when she collaborated with Michael Curran on the commission ‘Closing/Close by’. This meditation on the power of storytelling was accompanied by a publication of the same name.
Stidworthy has exhibited extensively internationally, including presentations at Documenta 12, the Thessaloniki Biennale in 2007, Shanghai Biennale 2006, and at Witte de With, Rotterdam, 2005. Solo shows include exhibitions at Galerie Hohenlohe, Vienna in 2006, and at FRAC Bourgogne, Dijon. In 2008, Stidworthy won the Liverpool Art Prize and was shortlisted for the Beck’s Futures prize, in 2001.
