Jayne Parker
Artist Jayne Parker works exclusively in film, originally with herself as the performer and more recently collaborating with musicians who she portrays in her work. The films focus on the musicians’ gestures and the sound they produce, highlighting the haptic and performative nature of what is happening both in front of and behind the camera.
Film and Video Umbrella first worked with Parker in 1999, on the film ‘59 1/2 Seconds’, which was included in the programme ‘Unlimited Edition’. Subsequently she was commissioned to make ‘Foxfire Eins’, a film work that toured to Spacex Gallery, Exeter and John Hansard Gallery, Southampton.
Parker’s critically acclaimed work has been shown at many venues including Tate Liverpool; Tate Britain, Camden Arts Centre, Room Artspace, and ICA, London; and Ikon, Birmingham. She lives and works in London.
