John Wood and Paul Harrison
John Wood and Paul Harrison have been working collaboratively since 1993, making playful video works that display a beguiling economy of means. The works tend to depict one or both of the artists experimenting with the physical properties of a space, often to comic effect. The installation of these recordings within the gallery space becomes integral to both their reading and their success.
Film and Video Umbrella first worked with Wood and Harrison in 1999, on the touring exhibition ‘Obstacle Course’. In 2000 they were commissioned to make ‘Cartography’, and in 2001 their work ‘Luton’ was included in the touring programme ‘Unlimited Edition’. The artists’ work was also the subject of a book in the Minigraph series, entitled ‘John Wood and Paul Harrison’.
Wood and Harrison have gained an international reputation for their work, with solo exhibitions at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Middlesborough Institute of Art; Tate Britain; and the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, USA. They have participated in group shows at the Hayward, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; MOCA, Los Angeles; and Helsinki Kunsthalle, amongst many others. Their work can be found the British Council Collection, the UK Government Art Collection and MOMA, New York. The artists are represented by f a projects, London.
