Simon Robertshaw

Simon Robertshaw (born in Wales, 1960) is an artist working in range of media. His installation works engage with institutional buildings such as museums and hospitals, and explore and investigate the history of medicine and psychiatry. Formally, his work experiments with different media and modes of presentation, such as the integration of video screens as sculptural objects.

Film and Video Umbrella first commissioned Simon Robertshaw in 1995, to make ‘The Nature of History’. This groundbreaking video and computer installation was followed by a second commission, ‘Trace Elements’, in 1999. This was a multimedia installation, which toured to galleries nationally.

Robertshaw’s work has been widely exhibited, notably at FACT and Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool; Arnolfini, Bristol; Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw; the ICA, Camden Arts Centre and the Natural History Museum, London.
