susan pui san lok

London-based artist susan pui san lok is renowned for her practice of incorporating time-worn or second-hand materials in her work. By doing so, she invites the viewer to question the authenticity of the spectacle they encounter, and to imagine the undisclosed narratives behind the images they are presented with. Themes of collective, national and individual identity are also central to her practice.

In 2008 Film and Video Umbrella commissioned susan pui san lok to make ‘Faster, Higher’. This multi-screen installation was typical of lok’s interest in recycled material, incorporating archive footage from the British Film Institute. Her work is the subject of a Film and Video Umbrella publication.

susan pui san lok (born 1972, UK) has exhibited widely in the UK. She has had solo exhibitions at BFI Southbank Gallery, London; Cornerhouse, and Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester; and Site Gallery, Sheffield. She has contributed to group exhibitions at Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong; MOMA, Shanghai; and Beaconsfield Contemporary Arts, London.
