Thomson & Craighead
Jon Thomson and Alison Craighead’s extraordinarily varied artworks combine conceptual flair with sophisticated technical innovation. They make works for galleries and public spaces, as well as online interactive works. The work often subverts the form of the site where it appears, such as a news website. In addition, the works utilise the internet for gathering linguistic or visual material, highlighting the free access it offers to a vast array of information.
Film and Video Umbrella first commissioned Thomson and Craighead in 2000, as part of the online project ‘the.year.dot’. In 2001 the artists made another web-based work for the project ‘Slipstream’. In 2005 their work was the subject of a Film and Video Umbrella publication, ‘Thomson & Craighead’, part of the Minigraphs series, and the first book on their practice.
The artists’ work has been exhibited internationally, including at Moderna Museet, Stockholm; ARC Projects, Sofia; FACT, Liverpool; Tate Britain; and Tang Contemporary, Beijing. Links to numerous online artworks can be found on the artists’ website.
