As an artist, filmmaker and live performer, Torsten Lauschmann celebrates glitches and out-takes, bits in between and images that might be easy to ignore. Born in Bad Soden, Germany (1970), and now based in Glasgow, over the past decade Torsten Lauschmann’s work has evolved beyond straight photography and filmworks to investigate the mechanics of digital processes, software creation, experimental editing, approaches to performance and the sculptural potential of video installation.

Solo shows and performances include ‘Startle Reaction,’ Dundee Contemporary Arts; Margaret Tait Award, Glasgow Film Festival (both 2011), ‘Patchwork Cinema,’ Collective Gallery, Edinburgh and a Edinburgh International Film Festival commission (both 2010). ‘The Darker Ages,’ Mary Mary, Glasgow (2009), solos show at Arnolfini, Bristol; Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow and a Nought to Sixty solo exhibition at ICA, London (all 2008).

Group exhibitions include ‘Recits Anamorphiques,’ Frac des Pays de la Loire (2011), ‘Votive,’ CCA, Glasgow, a commissioned site specific film installation as part of ‘Running Time: Artist Films in Scotland,’ Dean Gallery, Edinburgh & ‘Tonite,’ The Modern Institute, Glasgow (all 2009); ‘run, run,’ Collins Gallery, Glasgow - curated by Alex Frost and Sorcha Dallas (2008); The Autonomy of the Object, Cooper Gallery, Dundee.

He received a BAFTA nomination for his video work Remember Things Before They Happen and in 2003, Lauschmann was selected for Zenomap, the Scottish Participation at the Venice Biennale.
