Fenlandia 2005

Susan Collins

susan-collins.net/fenlandia

Since May 2004, webcams have been installed looking over various rural and technological locations in Silicon Fen (East Anglia), Silicon Valley (M4 Corridor) and Silicon Glen (Scotland).

Fenlandia

Each webcam remains in position for one year and harvests images pixel by pixel, recording at different rates over the course of the year. Each image is collected from top to bottom and left to right in horizontal bands continuously, marking visible fluctuations in light and movement throughout the day and being archived at two hour intervals. A selection of these images are displayed and updated regularly in the archive section of the 'Fenlandia' website.

'Fenlandia' can be viewed full screen and updated live to your computer in real time. So far cameras have been installed at the Anchor Inn, Sutton Gault and Cambourne Business Park in the area of Cambridgeshire known as Silicon Fen; in SIlicon Valley, one camera ran for a year at Greenham Common and ta camera remains at Cadence Business Park in Bracknell, Berkshire.

For 'Silicon Glen (Glenlandia)' a camera has been installed on the banks of Loch Faskally, Pitlochry, Perthshire and will continue until September 2006.
