Project Overview

In 2013, Film and Video Umbrella celebrated 25 years as an independent organisation. Throughout that quarter of a century, it maintained its place at the forefront of creative and technological developments with the moving image, consistently commissioning and championing work by artists who are innovating with film, video and digital media.

To mark the occasion, FVU ran a programme of screenings and special events in which stand-out pieces from the organisation’s past were re-staged and re-evaluated for the present. These included iconic commissions from now-established artists, as well as other important works whose influence was noted at the time, or which has only lately been fully recognised. The 25 Frames series began in September 2013, with special presentations by Tacita Dean, Simon Pope and Dryden Goodwin, and extended to other showcase events involving artists such as Clio Barnard, Isaac Julien, Phil Collins, Jane & Louise Wilson and Johan Grimonprez, amongst others.
