Identinet

‘Identinet’ was a collection of new web-based works by contemporary artists on the theme of identity.

The four artists’ works, by Jananne Al-Ani, Nick Crowe, Lucy Kimbell and Erika Tan, take a subtle and reflective look at the nature and construction of identity and highlight the forces (personal, cultural and technological) that contribute to our increasingly multi-faceted images of ourselves. The four web works have been commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella in collaboration with the Arts Council of England and Channel 4 Television and have been produced in conjunction with a series of short films on each of the featured artists. These mini-profiles, produced by Maverick Television, were broadcast on Channel 4 as part of ‘The Slot’ from 15-18 April 2002. ‘Identinet’ has been supported by the New Audiences Fund of the Arts Council of England.

Commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella in collaboration with Arts Council England and Channel 4 Television, this project was produced in conjunction with a series of individual artist profiles broadcast on Channel 4 as part of ‘The Slot’ during April 2002.

The archived version of the ‘Identinet’ website has been rebuilt in order to contextualise the project and make the site self contained. At the time of production, there were links to external sites and reliance on third party software which may no longer exist. Any biographical details are as they appeared on the site at the time.
