Silicon Fen

‘Silicon Fen’ was a collaboration between Film and Video Umbrella and Norwich School of Art and Design that initiated further commissioning and exhibition partnerships, over a three-year period, with venues across the East of England. Illuminating the profound sense of place that distinguishes this traditionally remote part of the country, the project also stopped to consider how this relative isolation had not precluded a number of technological advances that have shaped and informed its landscape, tracing parallels between the complex patterns of water distribution that have elevated and enriched the Fens and the new hi-tech information networks that have become such a prominent contemporary feature of the region. This theme provided the focus for a series of new art works, presented at galleries, and online, and encompassing both digital media and photography. Exhibitions by Susan Collins, Suky Best, Annabel Howland and Dalziel & Scullion took place at galleries in Ely, Bedford, Peterborough and King’s Lynn. Additional online contributions by Stephen Hughes and TNWK are available via the ‘Silicon Fen’ website.

A collaboration between Film and Video Umbrella and Norwich School of Art and Design. Funded by the Regional Arts Lottery Programme of Arts Council England, East.
