I’ll Still Be Here When You Return is a moving image work that explores the space between sleeping and wakefulness during a chronic illness flare-up. Inspired by the artist’s personal experience with illness and disability, this film questions the emotional impact of living under systems that place great importance on the ‘productive’ bodies whilst ignoring and even demonising the sick ones. Point cloud animations made from 3D scans of the artist’s bedroom during a post-surgery recovery period dissolve into one another while a deceivingly calm and meditative voice-over drifts between thoughts of pain, memory, isolation and mortality.
