Andrew Cross, 3 hours from here: an English Journey (2004)

3 hours from here: an English Journey was the centrepiece of Andrew Cross’ 2004 exhibition, ‘An English Journey’: a slow-moving road film shot from the cab of a long-distance lorry, as it hauls goods from Southampton to Manchester. An illustration of the extent to which proliferating motorway networks and warehouse distribution centres have facilitated the ‘just in time’ economy of the last few decades, the film is a timely footnote to a year when many of those systems have threatened to break down.
