Mikhail Karikis, No Ordinary Protest (2018)

Made in 2018, Mikhail Karikis’ video No Ordinary Protest was perfectly in tune with a moment when children, led by teenage activist Greta Thunberg, rose up in anger at the imminent prospect of future climate emergency. As planetary temperatures continue to rise, and as public protestations heat up accordingly, Karikis’ powerful parable has only gained in relevance.

Read Steven Bode's new essay No Ordinary Summer, which looks back at Karikis' video through the discoloured lens of the extraordinary events of the summer of 2023, as well as the 2018 exhibition text by Cathy Lane.
