Our FVU New Takes programme has supported six exceptional emerging visual artists from across the UK to realise new moving image works. Each artist received a £5,000 fee/budget, alongside production and curatorial support from the FVU team and external mentors. Throughout the spring and summer, we have partnered with Arnolfini to bring these new works to audiences in the city, while also premiering on our free FVU Watch platform.
A number of the artists will join FVU Director Angelica Sule and Arnolfini’s Head of Exhibitions Gemma Brace for an in-conversation exploring their work, creative approaches and experiences of taking part in FVU New Takes.
The six selected artists — Mahdy Abo Bahat, Anna Engelhardt, Hantao Li, Morisha Moodley, Jameisha Prescod and Lucy Rose Shaftain-Fenner — bring bold and inventive approaches to storytelling and form, engaging with themes including the global climate crisis, crip filmmaking, body politics, state violence, archival memory, and contemporary trans+ and British culture.
