Looking for Alfred

Johan Grimonprez

Screening & Talk

Event overview

London Review Bookshop presents a screening of Johan Grimonprez's Double Take, which is preceded by Grimonprez's FVU commission Looking for Alfred. With the aid of Hitchcock impersonators, Looking for Alfred weaves an unexpected narrative from Hitch’s fifty-year trail of cameo appearances in his own films.

The event marks the 120th anniversary of the August 1899 births of both Alfred Hitchcock and Jorge Luis Borges, whose short story ‘August 25, 1983’ is the inspiration for Johan Grimonprez's fascinating 2009 documentary fiction Double Take, written by award-winning novelist Tom McCarthy, and a dazzling reflection on image, identity, the rise of television and cold war fears.

Acclaimed actor Toby Jones, who portrayed Hitchcock in 2012 drama The Girl, will be in conversation with Gareth Evans after the screening.
