TRINITY: Michael. and Ashley Holmes in conversation

Michael.

Screening & Talk

Event overview

In response to Michael.’s commission cleave to the BLACK for Jerwood/FVU Awards 2022, Michael. invites artist Ashley Holmes who designed the sound for the installation to join him for a conversation.

Michael.’s installation cleave to the BLACK depicts through a moving-image triptych, the continuing legacy of Black male experience. This event will explore the references such as music, text, and spoken word that influenced Michael. in the making of the work, alongside Ashley’s responses, questions and references in reaction to the work.

As part of the event Michael. will lead a short physical movement workshop used during the making of cleave to the BLACK, which invites attendees to move in slow motion across the room.

Starting at 7pm, this event will last approximately 90 minutes with the chance to ask questions.

We will screen Michael’s film cleave to the BLACK (35 minutes) at 6:15pm for those who would like to watch it ahead of the event.

The short movement workshop is optional, learn more about our access support in the section below and how to get in touch if you would like to discuss how we can support you to attend.

The Jerwood/FVU Awards 2022 are a collaboration between Jerwood Arts and Film and Video Umbrella, in partnership with Leeds Art Gallery.
